About The ShelterBastrop County’s animal program began in 1998. The Shelter started in an old barn with donated cages and equipment and has grown into what it is today. We continue to service the needs of the citizens and their animals of our 869 square mile county. Our facilities include 90 large indoor/outdoor canine runs in three buildings and 28 indoor cat cages. We also use pop-up cages for overflows of cats, kittens, small dogs and puppies in our main building. We’re able to house just about any animal, bird, or reptile. For animals that are ready to be adopted, an application is required and references can be checked. In most cases, animals can go home the same day they are adopted. We also invite you to bring your other pet(s) and children with you to help assess the compatibility of your new companion with the rest of your family. Click here to see our Adoption Fees.
