Microchips: Helping to Identify Your Lost Pet
A door is accidentally left open… Next thing you know, you’ve spent hours combing the streets, posted signs around the neighborhood and at the local veterinary clinics, called the shelter, and still no sign of your beloved pet. If your pet was wearing a collar with identification tag, you have a good chance of getting him back. But, what if your pet loses its collar?
Microchips offer a second line of defense in reuniting you and your pet. They are miniature transponders that contain a registration number and phone registry unique to each brand of chip. To learn more about microchipping and its benefits, contact the Humane Society of the United States or your local shelter.
If you’ve lost your pet in or near Bastrop County, be sure to contact the Bastrop County Animal Shelter at (512) 581-4080 and visit the shelter at least twice a week to see if your pet is there. Also, bring a photo of your pet to the shelter so staff can recognize it if it’s found.
