On December 8, 2008, the Friends of Bastrop County Animal Shelter (Friends of BCAS) presented a symbolic check to Betty Wade, Director of the Bastrop County Animal Shelter, for $2,514, which represents gifts to enhance the shelter’s reception area and equipment for veterinarians’ use. This was the first gift of its kind given on behalf of Friends of BCAS. Since its inception in July 2008, the Friends group has raised several thousand dollars for shelter support through raffles, donations, and 2009 “Adoption Stories” calendar sales.
“This gift is the first of many that we will be giving to the shelter,” said Roxanne Hernandez, Chair of the Friends of BCAS. “We will continue to hold raffles, other fund raisers, and off-site adoptions in the coming months.” Some of the Friends’ plans for 2009 include developing a spay/neuter assistance program and helping the shelter make possible the addition of a cattery to the existing shelter building.
“The Friends group has been a terrific asset for the shelter,” said Betty. “Not only is it providing needed equipment and amenities for the shelter, but it has also heightened the shelter’s visibility within the community as a great place to find your ideal pet.”
