So, I decided to help out at a friend’s puppy shelter and start fostering puppies. Yes, you can see where this is going… The first pup we kept for a week and it felt like I was baby-sitting – easy enough. Then the second pup stayed for just 5 days. Both pups came with a name and seemed destined to find a home pretty quickly.
Then it was time to have her spayed. When she got home after surgery, she didn’t seem to feel well so she slept with me while I nursed her back to health.
But, lo and behold, about 2 days go by and there is another application for adoption! Oh, no! This time, it looks serious. This woman had lost her dog in a divorce and wanted to get a puppy for her 4-year old son. So, they came and got Khaki and this time I felt like she was gone for good. I boo hooed and still assured the woman that if there were ANY problems to please call me!
Just when I was getting used to the peace and quiet of no puppies, Khaki’s latest adopter called me and said it’s not going to work out because her son is afraid of Khaki! How could anyone be afraid of that sweet little puppy?!? Well, I came to find out that the little boy had been nipped at by another dog just a few weeks before they got Khaki and now he was afraid of all dogs.
So, back Khaki comes! When she returned, I looked at my husband and said, “That’s it! This dog has not had any stability in her whole life! She was found out on the street at about 4 months old, then came here, then went to two different applicants and came back again. Well, she is not leaving again! SHE IS HOME!”
