Chick

I lost my beautiful old lab/chow September 15th from cancer. My other dog, Red, a Siberian husky, howled inconsolably. We waited two months and then I started searching Blue Dog and Petfinder for a suitable companion for me and for Red. We wanted a young adult female who was gentle and trainable and in need of a loving home. Most of all, we wanted to save a great animal’s life!

I found Chick on Petfinder and on the Bastrop County Animal Shelter’s website last Friday. She looked sweet and playful with alert and soulful eyes. The next day, Red and I headed out to Bastrop and located Chick (with Patty’s help!). I watched the two interact together for two solid hours.

Finally, Chick, who was shy and stand-offish at first, came up to me and looked me straight in the eyes. That did it! We all left the shelter together and have found that Chick is fitting in perfectly with our home and lifestyle. She goes to her kennel when she comes in from the yard (she is just learning about my home) and she puts her chin on my leg and stares up at me.

This morning, I looked out to see Chick and Red running together happily in the yard. Thank you to the shelter staff for taking such good care of her and for telling me all about her!
