Bunny

I first noticed the frail and sad-looking kitten one day while visiting the Bastrop County Animal Shelter.  She was in a cage in the lobby with three other kittens, but she was the smallest and kept to herself, away from the others.  She had what appeared to be a grey grease smudge on the top of her head.

The next day I returned to the shelter to discover that two of the kittens were gone.  One had been euthanized due to illness and the other had been adopted.  I took the remaining two kittens, along with two adult cats, to Petco in an attempt to find forever homes for them.  After a full week, three of the four were adopted – but not the sad, little white loner.  So I returned her to the shelter.

I considered adopting her, but my wife and I have three other rescued cats that are kept outdoors due to my wife’s severe cat allergies.  I just couldn’t leave the little, white sad kitten, though, so I took her home for a few days and kept her in a spare bedroom.

Then the shelter employees showed me the surrender paperwork that was filled out when she was brought in.  It stated that someone had witnessed this kitten being thrown from a car window.  The person who witnessed that act had grabbed the kitten from the street and taken her to the shelter.  That explained, to me at least, why she was so sad.  She had lost her mother and siblings at an all too early age.  She was, after all, only a baby.

It was then that I decided to foster her and give her all the love she could handle, even though I knew she would have to be isolated in the house because of my wife’s allergies.  Well, my wife fell in love with her immediately.  For some strange reason that we can’t explain, this little girl doesn’t cause an allergic reaction in my wife while the others still do.

To the person that brought that kitten into the shelter – my heartfelt thanks.  Today she’s healthy, much-loved and now has a forever home.  God bless you for that act of kindness.  There is no doubt in our minds that this very sweet, loving kitten we named Bunny was meant to survive and become a part of our family.
